Volunteering for Your Local State Emergency Services (SES)

The Queensland SES consists of approximately 6,000 volunteers, from a range of backgrounds and professions, who respond to emergencies and disasters across the State.

If you have a passion to help your community, the SES could be for you.

The SES is a primary responder to storm and flood events, and members play a vital role before, during, and after emergencies. Members also play a big role in supporting other agencies with search and rescue, road crash rescue and traffic management operations.

All members are provided with on-going training, and develop a wide array of practical life skills, including first aid, navigation, land search and storm damage training. There are no joining fees and volunteers are provided protective clothing, training and relevant equipment based on their role within an SES Group.

For more information and to become a member of your local SES group contact South-Western SES on (07) 4592 5230 or visit http://www.ses.qld.gov.au/ for more information.

Volunteering - Auxiliary Firefighters - Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES)

Auxiliary firefighters are integral to QFES, working alongside full-time and volunteer firefighters to efficiently and rapidly respond to incidents. This is the perfect opportunity for those who are driven to help their community to get involved with local firefighting activities, while continuing to work in their usual jobs.

South Western Region has the highest percentage of auxiliary firefighters working alongside full-time staff, with over 470 auxiliaries and more than 90 full-time firefighters.

Auxiliary firefighters man fire and rescue stations across Queensland communities, and are on call 24-7 to respond to Triple Zero (000) emergency situations in their communities.

They respond to various incidents, including structure fires, bushfires, car crashes, chemical spills, and technical rescues. Community education also comes into their sphere of expertise, sharing fire safety information with locals.
