Work Camp

Balonne Shire Council hosts two Queensland Corrections Work Camps, one in St George and on in Dirranbandi.

The prisoners to a two week rotation at each camp, every month.

The low risk prisoners are able to perform community work such as lawn mowing and garden maintenance, set up and pack down for events, and other small projects.  If you have an idea for a Work Camp project, please contact Council's Community Development team to talk about your proposal.

The project must be:

  • sponsored by a not-for-profit group or government agency
  • supported by the local council

When developing your proposal, you should consider:

  • how the local community will benefit from the project
  • whether the work can be done by prisoners
  • how many hours work it will take
  • what supervision the requesting organisation will provide.

We will consider each proposal for work program community projects on a case-by-case basis.  For more information about how your application is processed, please read the Work Camp Application Procedure.
