Date: 5pm 6 February 2024

This is an update from the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) for the Balonne Shire.  Travellers and residents are asked to prepare now, stay informed and monitor conditions and where possible avoid travelling into areas that will be most affected.

No significant rainfall totals have been recorded across the Moonie River catchment in the last four days. The chance of showers and thunderstorms are forecast over the next few days, but rainfall totals are not expected to significantly affect river levels.

CONDAMINE/BALONNE RIVERS

The Balonne River at Surat may peak near the major flood level (9.00 metres) during Thursday. River level rises are expected along the Balonne River downstream of Surat to Beardmore Dam. Minor flooding is rising at Weribone.

The Balonne River at Warroo is at 4.94 metres and rising slowly, below the minor flood level (9.00 metres). The Balonne River at Warroo is expected to remain below the minor flood level for the next few days.

At this stage, predictions are that Beardmore Dam will reach capacity and begin to spill on Thursday and into Friday.
