WATCH AND ACT NO. 21

THURSDAY 9 JUNE 2022 – 4.00PM

This is a FLOOD WATCH and ACT from the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) for the Balonne Shire. The LDMG will now consider whether to STAND DOWN.

ROAD UPDATES

The Bollon Dirranbandi Road remains OPEN WITH CAUTION.

The Castlereagh Highway (Dirranbandi – Hebel) has now RE-OPENED WITH CAUTION. This is great news for the southern part of the Shire and those who have been isolated for many weeks. It is also great news for travellers seeking to migrate from New South Wales into Queensland.

We encourage all visitors to the Shire to stop and support our local businesses who have been doing it tough with the recent flooding and road closures.

All road users are reminded to check road conditions before travelling and that road conditions can change without notice. All major highways are now open:

• Balonne Highway west of St George - Bollon - Cunnamulla - Open
• Carnarvon Highway – St George - Thallon - Mungindi – Open
• Carnarvon Highway heading to Surat – Open
• Castlereagh Highway – St George – Dirranbandi – Open with caution
• Castlereagh Highway – Dirranbandi to Hebel – Open with caution
• Moonie Highway – Open

Council will continue to monitor local roads and commence emergent works and re-opening. Council will update its emergency dashboard and social media platform to inform the community as the local road network re-opens.

HEBEL

Bureau of Meteorology advised at 10.45am Thursday 9 June 2022 that the Bokhara River at Hebel is currently at 1.77 metres and falling slowly, with moderate flooding. The Bokhara River at Hebel will continue to slowly ease during this week but is likely to remain above the moderate flood level (1.50 m) into the weekend as floodwater continues to arrive from upstream.
