This is a flood watch from the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) for the Balonne Shire.

BOLLON

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) advise minor flooding likely at Bollon. Moderate to heavy rainfall with totals up to 106 mm was recorded in the catchment over the last few days, which has caused significant river level rises along the Wallam Creek. No further significant rainfall totals are expected over the next few days. The Wallam Creek at Bollon is currently at 0.44 metres and rising. The Wallam Creek at Bollon is likely to exceed the minor flood level (0.50 m) from Friday afternoon. Council is currently inspecting the road conditions including the causeway at Bollon on the Balonne Highway. Bollon residents should also be aware that the Balonne Highway at the Gilweir approx. 10 km west of St George is also currently subject to flooding. The Balonne Highway west to Cunnamulla is still closed at the Shire boundary.

MUNGINDI - THALLON

Queensland Transport & Main Roads have advised the Carnarvon Highway south of Thallon (between Mungindi and Thallon) is about to close as water is .3m over the road.  Road conditions can change without notice.  

Note: The Barwon Highway between Weengallon and Talwood is also closed with 1m of water over the road.

TRAVEL ALERTS

All road users are reminded to check road conditions before travelling and that road conditions can change without notice.
Major highways are affected including:
• Balonne Highway west of St George and west of Bollon
• Carnarvon Highway heading to Thallon – proceed with caution
• Castlereagh Highway – proceed with caution – Dirranbandi to Hebel
• Barwon Highway – between Talwood and Weengallon – closed
A number of local roads are either closed or subject to flooding with inability to access and repair due to wet and sodden conditions. Council is continuing to monitor, put out warnings and will undertake emergent works as weather and conditions permit.
