By-Election Dates to be Announced 

Balonne Shire Council advises that due to the recent resignation of former Councillor Ian Todd, a by-election will be conducted by the Electoral Commission Queensland.   We would like everyone to get ready while awaiting a date for the election which could be as early as November with nominations closing as early as the end of October.  Council is just waiting on the Deputy Premier to approve the election to be conducted by postal ballot and the Electoral Commission Queensland to announce the dates.

The following information is provided so that residents and prospective candidates can get ready.

To have your say and vote please check that your electoral roll is up to date at https://www.ecq.qld.gov.au/enrol-to-vote or https://www.aec.gov.au/   Enrolment forms are available at Council’s office and library in hard copy or for download from the Australian Electoral Commission o line.

If you decide to nominate for a local government election, it is mandatory to complete a free training course, otherwise you will not be eligible to nominate with the Electoral Commission of Queensland. This training will provide more detail on your obligations under legislation.  You must also be a resident of the Shire and ensure that you are properly enrolled.
