The Queensland SES consists of approximately 6,000 volunteers, from a range of backgrounds and professions, who respond to emergencies and disasters across the State.

The SES is a primary responder to storm and flood events, and members play a vital role before, during, and after emergencies. Members also play a big role in supporting other agencies with search and rescue, road crash rescue and traffic management operations.

All members are provided with on-going training, and develop a wide array of practical life skills, including first aid, navigation, land search and storm damage training. There are no joining fees and volunteers are provided protective clothing, training and relevant equipment based on their role within an SES Group.
