Published on 18 March 2026

Balonne Local Disaster Management Group

The Balonne Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has moved from ALERT status to STAND UP with the welcomed inflows coming down the Condamine/Balonne river system.

Beardmore Dam is currently at 102% and Jack Taylor Weir is currently at 98.3%. Recreational users of the Balonne River should be aware that the river will be moving fast as the gates at Beardmore Dam and then Jack Taylor Weir are currently both open.

Flood waters are currently peaking at Weribone on the Balonne River at 11m and currently rising to 9.5m at Warroo upstream from Beardmore Dam. The Bureau of Meteorology is expecting a flood peak of 7.5m-8.5m for St George around the afternoon of Saturday 21 March 2026.

Further downstream, Whyenbah has a current moderate flood level of 6.13m.

There is minimal forecast rain in the catchment over the coming days.

Council staff are currently monitoring the river gauge in Dirranbandi, assessing road conditions and have closed a number of local roads:

  • Narline Road – Closed to all traffic
  • Commissioners Point Road – Closed to all traffic
  • Whyenbah Road – Closed to all traffic
  • Wanganui Road – Closed to all traffic
  • Cubbie Road – Closed to all traffic
  • Bollon-Dirranbandi Road - Expected to close in the coming days

Road conditions are updated on Council’s emergency dashboard. Remember if its flooded forget it.

Council staff are making preparations at Dirranbandi in the event that we need to close Pen Stocks and pumps are onsite and ready for use as/if required.

Council is assessing the potential for a future misting program to deal with mosquitoes once flood water recedes. In the interim, residents should use appropriate protection from mosquitoes in the area.

Next LDMG meeting date Friday 20 March 2026.
