LDMG UPDATE #4 - 20 March 2026

The Balonne Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) is at STAND UP status with the welcomed inflows coming down the Balonne River system.
Beardmore Dam is currently at 100.91% and Jack Taylor Weir is currently at 111.72%. Recreational users of the Balonne River should be aware that the river will be moving fast, as the gates at Beardmore Dam and Jack Taylor Weir are currently both open.
Upstream from Beardmore Dam flood waters at Weribone on the Balonne River has dropped to 10.38m from a peak of around 11m, and at Warroo is currently at 9.69m and dropping after peaking at around 9.85m.
The Bureau of Meteorology is expecting a flood peak of 8m for the Balonne River in St George and for it to remain at this height into Saturday with a slow drop off.
Further downstream, Whyenbah has a current moderate flood level of 6.96m and the manual river height gauge at Dirranbandi is at 4.3m and is expected to reach around 4.5m on Saturday and peak around Wednesday.
There is no forecast rain in the catchment over the coming days.
Council staff are currently monitoring the river gauge in Dirranbandi, assessing road conditions and have closed a number of local roads:
- Narline Road – Closed to all traffic
- Commissioners Point Road – Closed to all traffic
- Whyenbah Road – Closed to all traffic
- Wanganui Road – Closed to all traffic
- Cubbie Road – Closed to all traffic
- Bollon-Dirranbandi Road – Could close overnight
Road conditions are updated on Council’s emergency dashboard. Remember if its flooded forget it. Council has removed the electric BBQ’s from the foreshore in St George.
Council is assessing the potential for a future misting program to deal with mosquitoes once flood water recedes. In the interim, residents should use appropriate protection from mosquitoes in the area.
