Balonne Local Disaster Management Group

The Balonne Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) is at STAND-UP status with the welcomed inflows coming down the Balonne River system.

Flooding in the Balonne River system peaked in St George on Friday evening at 7.9m and is now receding.

Beardmore Dam is currently at 99.76% and Jack Taylor Weir is currently at 97.04%. Recreational users of the Balonne River should be aware that the river will continue to move fast, as the gates at Beardmore Dam and Jack Taylor Weir are currently both open. Sunwater is slowly drawing down the water and will look to close the gates at both the Dam and Weir by around the end of the week.

The flood waters are currently peaking at 7.3m at Whyenbah. The flood water height at Dirranbandi is currently at 4.65m and potentially peaking at a moderate flood level of 4.7m to 4.8m tomorrow morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology is expecting no significant rainfall in the catchment over the coming days.

Council staff are currently monitoring the river gauge in Dirranbandi, assessing road conditions and have closed and restricted a number of local roads:

  • Narline Road – Closed to all traffic
  • Commissioners Point Road – Closed to all traffic
  • Whyenbah Road – Closed to all traffic
  • Cubbie Road – Restricted to four-wheel drive vehicles only
  • Bollon-Dirranbandi Road – Closed to all traffic
  • Woolerbilla Road – Closed to all traffic

Council will reinstall the electric BBQ’s on the foreshore in St George in the coming days.

Council is assessing the potential for a future misting program to deal with mosquitoes once flood water recedes. In the interim, residents should use appropriate protection from mosquitoes in the area.
