BULLETIN NO. 2

Thursday 4 August 2022 – 3.00pm

This is a bulletin from the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) for the Balonne Shire. LDMG is continuing to monitor road conditions due to rainfall across the Shire and Balonne River levels rising due to inflows across the catchment.

The Bureau of Meteorology advised at 11.00am this morning, that rainfall totals of 10-20 mm are forecast for the lower Balonne River Catchment for the remainder of Thursday into Friday. Rainfall totals of 15-30 mm with isolated totals of 30-40 mm are possible close to the New South Wales border for the same period.

The Balonne River at Dirranbandi is likely to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m) during the next few days.

The Bokhara River is currently rising and was 1.04m. The Narran River at Dirranbandi – Hebel Road was 4.12m and steady. (as at 9.00am 4 August 2022).

Residents and travellers can expect disruption to their travel plans at short notice due to the saturation levels of many of our rivers and creeks.

ROAD CLOSURES

Water is over the State controlled road Castlereagh Highway between Dirranbandi and Hebel – and is now closed to all through traffic (local traffic is currently being accepted as shown below). Council is continuing to monitor the situation on behalf of the Department of Transport & Main Roads in accordance with their guidelines. The road closure is due to a rainfall event and saturated ground and does not include flows still to come from St George.

Minnum, Whyenbah, Cubbie and Openbah Roads remain closed.
