RUGBY LEAGUE SUPERSTAR SELWYN COBBO SET TO KICK OFF RUGBY LEAGUE CAMP IN BALONNE

Back

Rugby League Superstar Selwyn Cobbo will be kicking off a free Rugby League Camp in St George on 18 & 19 November 2023 to inspire Balonne Shire and South West Queensland youth to follow their dreams.

Cobbo, who plays as a winger for the Brisbane Broncos, Queensland Maroons and Australia, will be attending the camp in partnership with leading sports management group Pacific Sports Management and funded privately by a local philanthropic donor with specific sessions for 6-8 years, 9-12 years and 13-17 years, but places are limited and registration is essential.

In conjunction with this Rugby League Camp, Balonne Shire Council will be holding free Career Pathways Workshops to help Balonne youths and locals looking to reassess their life/career goals with the direction and support to find their own ideal career.

Balonne Shire Mayor, Samantha O’Toole said this is a great opportunity to support the youths, young adults and jobseekers in our Shire.

“Selwyn Cobbo is an absolute superstar of the game and to have him come out to our Shire and hold a Rugby League camp is a great opportunity for our youth to be able to experience,” Mayor O’Toole said.

“I am looking forward to meeting him and watching our young players show off their skills and learn a few new ones from a superstar of league.

“I would like to particularly thank our local philanthropist for making the generous donation that made all of this possible for our young up-and-coming football generation.

“In conjunction with this Rugby League Camp, Council will be holding Career Pathways Workshops that take participants on a journey of self-discovery and job alignment to help them identify and design their ultimate future career.”

Our Career Pathways workshops will feature two highly successful Acadiam Activation tools, which are easy-to-use and designed to help participants find the ideal career path that suits them. The two Acadiam Activation tools are:

-    LIFE BY YOUR DESIGN – this tool helps participants answer big picture questions by helping them to reflect on where they want to live, the kind of car they want to drive, the kind of social life they want to create around them and then matches these items with how much such a life would cost to achieve.

-    VIRTUAL PERSONALITY & INTEREST BASED MODULE – this tool identifies participants’ strengths, suitability and the potential salary of suitable jobs that their inputs have presented, to help them explore, pursue and discover the best career pathway for them.

“These Career Pathways Workshops will fit in perfectly with gaps in the Rugby League Camp and will hopefully give the youth and jobseekers in our Shire an added level of support to help them find the career path that suits them,” Mayor O’Toole said.

“We are really looking forward to seeing all the smiling faces of our young footballers at the camp and watch both them and local jobseekers grow into their own career pathways from the guidance they’ll receive at the Career Pathways Workshop.”
