SCAVENGER HUNT LURES TRAVELLERS BACK TO THE ST GEORGE REGION
Published on 19 May 2025
Outback Queensland’s St George Region is inviting travellers to swap the highway for a hunt and get hooked on adventure!
The award-winning I Got Hooked on the St George Region Scavenger Hunt is back bigger and better, and it’s making a splash across the region.
Kicking off with a special one-day Mini Scavenger Hunt at the St George Region Explore Centre on Saturday 24 May, which also happens to be International Scavenger Hunt Day, it’s offers locals and visitors a sneak peek at the fun to come.
Participants will race around St George, solving riddles and reeling in the answers with the fastest team hooking the elusive Golden Yellowbelly Trophy.
Fresh off winning Silver in the 2024 Queensland Tourism Industry Awards for the Richard Power Award for Tourism Marketing & Campaigns, the full hunt casts a wide net — encouraging travellers to explore all seven towns in the St George Region: St George, Dirranbandi, Hebel, Nindigully, Bollon, Thallon and Mungindi.
With each riddle solved participants will collect a unique fish token for each town. And if they reel in the full catch, they’ll score the limited-edition 'I Got Hooked on the St George Region' keyring, featuring a fresh new, totally collectable design for 2025.
They’ll also be cast into the monthly draw to win a $100 fuel voucher. Mayor Samantha O’Toole says the I Got Hooked on the St George Region Scavenger Hunt is a perfect example of regional tourism done right.
“We’re thrilled to bring the Scavenger Hunt back to the St George Region,” said Mayor O’Toole.
“It’s such a clever and creative way to encourage visitors to truly explore our beautiful towns, meet our locals, and support our small businesses.
“It’s interactive, entertaining, and a real lure for our region.”
And it’s already a favourite with past travellers:
“We had an absolute blast doing the scavenger hunt. We got to see so many parts of the region we wouldn’t have seen... The kids loved participating and finding out the clues. It was a wonderful family experience. Great job to you for providing tourists with something so fun to do with their families.” – Sarah Dutton, Brisbane, QLD
“I’m just letting you know that I completed the Scavenger Hunt. It was a really enjoyable activity to participate in, and it meant that we actually explored the seven towns in the St George Region, rather than just pass through as we previously had done. Thank you for this brilliant activity, we had a lot of fun, and I love my collectable Key Ring.” – Julie Barnett, Marrangaroo, NSW
The scavenger hunt runs until 30 October, or until keyrings run out— so get in quick and cast your line before this adventure slips away!
