Local landholders are being encouraged to apply for the Federal Government’s Smart Farms Small Grants program.

The program funds short-term projects which build the capacity of farmers to support their natural resource management efforts by offering funding between $5,000 and $100,000 (GST exclusive) for each grant.

“This is a hugely popular program that provides a real bang for buck when it comes to delivering benefits for farms, the environment and local communities,” Mayor Samantha O’Toole said.

“Our farmers have always looked after the land and these grants get innovative practices out on the ground and delivering real benefits to our farmers.”

Cr O’Toole said any landholder who required some assistance to complete their application was encouraged to touch base with Council’s Economic Development Officer or Rural Services team by telephone on 07 4620 8888 or via email council@balonne.qld.gov.au

“Our staff are very familiar with this program and are only too happy to help,” she said.
