LOCAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT GROUP UPDATE - 7 April 2025

Published on 07 April 2025

Balonne Local Disaster Management Group

The Balonne Local Disaster Management Group remains at Stand Up and will meet again Wednesday 9 April 2025. Balonne Shire Council is continuing to monitor road conditions and river levels.

BOLLON

The Balonne Highway was re-opened this morning. The BOM advised that Wallam Creek is to be downgraded to a minor, or potentially removed from flood watch this afternoon/evening. Waste collection services will continue on Wednesday.

MUNGINDI

The Barwon River at Mungindi is currently at 6.14m and expected to stay below the moderate level. There may be a prolonged peak as the flooding from the Moonie River joins with Barwon River flooding. Balonne Shire Council is aware that Mungindi is still isolated from both St George and Moree. The local supermarket has been restocked by NSW SES.

Council is continuing to monitor the road closure on the Carnarvon Highway, which is currently at 0.3m between Thallon and Mungindi and will be in contact with the Department of Transport & Main Roads as soon as the deck is clear.

Waste collection services are likely to be disrupted at Mungindi and will resume when the roads re-open. Council is currently liaising with Moree Plains Shire Council for their potential to arrange collection.

RESUPPLY

Council has made contact with affected properties along the impacted waterways and 14 properties have been resupplied to date. DPI can assist with the supply of fodder for livestock, with Council to distribute throughout the Shire.

Should you or your neighbours on isolated properties be experiencing any need for resupply, please phone Council during business hours on 07 4620 8888 for further information.

Planning is underway to commence mosquito control program. Details will be provided shortly. In the interim, residents are advised to cover up and use insect repellent to avoid mosquitoes.

DISASTER IMPACT SURVEY

Primary producers and agribusinesses are urged to complete the Disaster Impact Survey to report damages and losses to property and businesses in the Balonne Shire. This information helps inform the recovery needs of impacted communities. Please take date-stamped photographs when safe to do so, to support any future applications for assistance.
