COUNCIL CONDOLENCES FOR CROSS BORDER COMMISSIONER IAN LEAVERS

Council extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Mr Ian Leavers, Queensland’s first Cross-Border Commissioner.
Mr Leavers was well known to all of us here at Balonne Shire Council and made a significant contribution to improving collaboration and understanding between Queensland and New South Wales governments.
He strengthened cross-border communities and services through listening and providing leadership, dedication, and practical solutions.
His public service will leave a lasting legacy.
The Balonne Shire Council acknowledges his commitment to the people of our region and expresses its deepest sympathy.
Mayor Samantha O’Toole is deeply saddened to hear of Ian Leavers’ passing. “Commissioner Leavers work supporting communities in the Balonne with the challenges of cross-border living was a breath of fresh air to our residents that live near the border”, said Mayor O’Toole.
“Ian had such a personable nature, meeting community on their level whilst working with conviction and agility.
“He was instrumental in providing advice and coordinating inter-departmental collaboration to get real outcomes for our communities.
“Our sincere condolences go out to his family and colleagues.
“His death is a loss to our border communities and to Queensland as a whole.”
