ST GEORGE REGION AWARDED AT AUSTRALIAN TOURISM AWARDS

The St George Region Explore Centre has received national recognition for the Balonne Shire, winning Bronze for Best Visitor Information Services at the prestigious Australian Tourism Awards held on 6 March at Fremantle Prison in Western Australia.
Up against a competitive field of eight outstanding finalists – including visitor centres from major cities such as Melbourne and Canberra – the St George Region team stood tall, showcasing the passion, professionalism and community spirit that make our part of Outback Queensland truly special.
The Explore Centre team’s dedication to welcoming guests, sharing local stories and championing the businesses, attractions and landscapes of the Balonne Shire has helped put our region on the national tourism map.
This award highlights the crucial role visitor information services play in shaping the experiences of travellers who explore our region.
Balonne Shire Mayor Samantha O’Toole said the achievement was a testament to the team’s hard work and professionalism is supporting region’s tourism community. “To be recognised at a national level is an incredible honour for the St George Region,” said Mayor O’Toole.
“This Bronze award reflects the genuine warmth, local knowledge and professionalism that our team brings to every visitor interaction.
“It also shines a spotlight on the incredible experiences and hospitality our operators deliver day in and day out and we couldn’t be prouder.”
