Balonne Shire Uncontested Councillor By-Election Declared

On Wednesday, 2 November 2022, the Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) declared the result of the Balonne Shire Council councillor by-election with Alex Benn declared the elected candidate.

The ECQ received one candidate nomination for the by-election, which was due to be held later this month.

Alex will replace former Councillor Ian Todd, who resigned from his position in September 2022.  He will be sworn in and begin his term as councillor before the next council meeting on 17 November 2022.  He will then serve as councillor until the next election which will be held in March 2024.

Alex Benn is a well-known and respected member of the Balonne community, with business interests in medical services and primary production, he is also a board member of the Country Universities Centre Balonne.
 
Mayor Samantha O’Toole welcomed the news and said she was looking forward to formally welcoming Alex Benn to the Balonne Shire team.

“I would like to thank the ECQ and our community members who supported the ECQ in sharing election and voting information across Balonne Shire Council,” said Mayor O’Toole.

“We are pleased with the result and the quick resolution, which means we will be able to get on with the business of delivering for our Shire as quickly as possible.”
