WATCH AND ACT NO. 20
MONDAY 6 JUNE 2022 – 4.00PM

This is a FLOOD WATCH and ACT from the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) for the Balonne Shire. Our LDMG remains at STAND UP and will continue to monitor and/or respond, as required.

At our LDMG meeting this afternoon Bureau of Meteorology advised the long-range forecast is for a wetter than average winter.

HEBEL

Flood warnings are now limited to Hebel as conditions continue to ease on the Balonne River. Floodwater continues to move slowly along Briarie Creek and the Culgoa, Ballandool, Narran and Bokhara River systems, as floodwater continues to arrive from upstream areas. River levels are expected to remain elevated this week on the Bokhara River at Hebel. The Bokhara River at Hebel is currently at 1.86 metres and falling slowly, with moderate flooding. The Bokhara River at Hebel will continue to slowly ease during this week but remain above the moderate flood level (1.50 m) as floodwater continues to arrive from upstream.

DIRRANBANDI

The Balonne River Minor at Dirranbandi remains at minor flood levels and continuing to ease.

ROAD UPDATES

The Bollon Dirranbandi Road is OPEN WITH CAUTION which is great news for residents and school children to get access into town.

The Castlereagh Highway (Dirranbandi – Hebel) remains CLOSED and the Queensland Government Department of Transport & Main Roads (TMR) will inspect as water recedes. Opening of the road will depend on the condition of the pavement and is subject to TMR requirements. Council will continue to work with TMR to ensure it is opened as soon as possible.

All road users are reminded to check road conditions before travelling and that road conditions can change without notice. Major highways are affected including:

• Balonne Highway west of St George - Bollon - Cunnamulla - Open

• Carnarvon Highway – St George - Thallon - Mungindi – Open

• Carnarvon Highway heading to Surat – Open

• Castlereagh Highway – St George – Dirranbandi – Open with caution

• Castlereagh Highway – Dirranbandi to Hebel - Closed

• Moonie Highway – Open

Council will be monitoring local roads and weather permitting will commence emergent works and re-opening. Council will update its emergency dashboard, this alert and social media to inform the community as soon as possible as local roads re-open.
