WATCH AND ACT NO. 18

WEDNESDAY 1 JUNE 2022 – 2.30PM

This is a FLOOD WATCH and ACT from the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) for the Balonne Shire. Our LDMG remains at STAND UP and will continue to monitor and/or respond, as required.

At 10.29am this morning Bureau of Meteorology advised:

ST GEORGE

The Balonne River is expected to be around 7m today and likely to remain elevated for much of this week, but will fall slowly as flow from upstream gradually eases.

DIRRANBANDI

The Balonne River Minor at Dirranbandi is currently at 4.48 metres and rising, with moderate flooding. A moderate flood peak around 4.60 metres is likely along the Balonne River Minor at Dirranbandi during Thursday afternoon.

HEBEL

The Bokhara River at Hebel is currently at 1.85 metres and rising slowly, with moderate flooding. The Bokhara River at Hebel is likely to peak close to the major flood level (2.00 m) during Thursday or Friday, with a long broad peak.
Queensland Transport & Main Roads have advised Council the Castlereagh Highway (Dirranbandi – Hebel) will be scheduled for stabilised pavement to reduce the likelihood of wash outs. Unfortunately, the road remains closed and works will not be able to commence until the water recedes.

ROAD UPDATES

All road users are reminded to check road conditions before travelling and that road conditions can change without notice. Major highways are affected including:

  • Balonne Highway west of St George - Bollon - Cunnamulla - Open
  • Carnarvon Highway – St George - Thallon - Mungindi – Open
  • Carnarvon Highway heading to Surat – Open
  • Castlereagh Highway – Dirranbandi to Hebel - Closed
