Park upgrades commence across Balonne

Back

Construction works have commenced at two popular parks in the Balonne Shire, prompting temporary closures to the facilities until the end of this year.

Mungindi River Park is now fully closed to the public, to make way for major upgrades; this includes camping, barbecue, playground, toilet and fishing facilities.

Exciting improvements will be made over the coming months, including footpath accessibility enhancements, new barbecue and seating areas, and landscaping works.

The works encompass stages two and three of the wider Mungindi Recreation Area Upgrade.

The Mungindi Recreation Area Upgrade stages two and three is a joint initiative and proudly funded by the Queensland Government, the New South Wales Government, and Balonne Shire Council.

A local building firm has been awarded the tender for these works, in line with Council’s commitment to supporting Balonne Shire business and industry.

Walter Austin Park in Bollon is also partially closed while the highly anticipated skate park is built.

During the construction period, playground equipment at Walter Austin Park will remain mostly open – though brief closures will be necessary at times when machinery is being moved onto site.

Council will endeavour to give advance notice to community members in the instance of a full playground closure.

The Bollon Skate Park project is funded by the Australian Government under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

Both projects are scheduled for completion in late December.
