Disappointment Over Vandalism At Rowden Park

Balonne Shire Council Mayor Samantha O’Toole has expressed disappointment over vandalism at Rowden Park in St George.

This follows the discovery earlier this week of damage to the playing surface in a number of locations on the football field in the centre of the park.

“Over the weekend of June 12-13, someone has driven one or more vehicles on to the football field and done burn-outs, digging ruts into the playing surface and damaging the grass.

“This is very disappointing. I can’t imagine who in St George would do this or why.

Rowden Park Damage

“This is a community-owned facility used by groups and individuals for football, personal training and other sporting and fitness activities. Why would anyone want to damage it?

“Also, repairing the damage comes at a cost to the ratepayers in the Balonne Shire and, while not a huge amount of money, it takes funds and resources away from other work.

“If anyone has any information about this vandalism, I would appreciate them letting the Council know.

“In general, I would like to appeal to residents across our Balonne communities, in relation to vandalism or other anti-social behaviour, ‘if you see something, say something’ and tell Council or the Police what you have witnessed.”
