Summer water restrictions on the horizon for St George

Back

St George residents are being reminded that Level One Summer water restrictions will come into force from Monday 5th October 2020.

The restrictions will impact all residences, businesses and schools in the township.

Residents will only be allowed to water between 5 am and 9 am and 5 pm and 9 pm three days a week, with the days determined by their street number.

Schools and caravan parks will be able to water at set times between Monday and Thursday, while other businesses will be able to water between set times on three days of the week.

Mayor Samantha O’ Toole said any resident, business or organisation can make a written application for alternative watering times to be considered.

She said Council staff would be monitoring compliance with a first offence incurring a written warning and subsequent offences resulting in an infringement notice and a fine being issued.

Mayor O'Toole is asking all residents to use the town’s water carefully, as excessive consumption may lead to tighter Level Two restrictions.

More information about the restrictions, including some water saving tips, can be found on Council’s website.
