Important update to COVID-19 restrictions

Back

novel coronavirus illustrationFrom Saturday 22nd August, 2020, there are changes to COVID-19 health restrictions which will affect the Balonne Shire.

This is due to nine new cases of COVID-19 being confirmed in Queensland.

From today, gatherings in public spaces and private residences are restricted to a maximum of 30 people.

However, these restrictions do not apply to local events or businesses with a current COVID-safe plan (e.g. sporting events, pubs and clubs).

In light of the new cases detected in the Greater Brisbane area, Balonne Shire Council is urging any residents who have travelled to the Greater Brisbane area over the past two weeks and feel unwell to get tested for COVID-19 and then self-isolate at home.

The Greater Brisbane area includes the following Council areas:

  • City of Brisbane
  • City of Ipswich
  • Logan City
  • Redland City
  • Scenic Rim Region
  • Lockyer Valley Region
  • Moreton Bay Region

COVID-19 testing can be done by local GPs and local hospitals in the South West Hospital and Health service. Please call ahead and tell staff about your symptoms so they can prepare for your visit.

A COVID-19 fever clinic is also open at 44 Grey St, St George.

An important message for all residents:

  • Stay home if you are sick
  • If you have any COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, get tested
  • Stay 1.5 metres away from other people—think two big steps
  • Wash your hands with soap and water, or hand sanitiser
  • Leave a location if it is crowded.
