Council wants to hear from residents about their vision for how to improve the St George central business district, Balonne River foreshore, Rowden Park, Bollon’s RV Park and Streetscape, and the Beardmore Dam Recreation Area.
Mayor Samantha O’Toole said that due to COVID-19 restrictions face-to-face community meetings were not able to be held at this time.
“It is extremely important to get feedback from the communities of St George and Bollon on the direction they want Council to take with these recreational areas so this is the first stage of consultation,” she said.
“The Council team is beginning to update master plans for the St George Riverfront and St George Town Centre. New plans are being created for Rowden Park, Bollon Streetscape and RV Park, and the Beardmore Dam Recreation Area and we want to know what ideas our communities have on how best to use these spaces.
“It has been a number of years since original master plans were adopted by Council and this is an opportunity for our community to assess how Council is travelling with the beautification and use of these areas and to contribute to how they can be used in the future.
“In order to keep moving forward during COVID-19 restrictions Council is undertaking a more electronic form of consultation. It is important that individuals, organisations and the broader community take the time to engage in this process so that we can gauge the interest and desires of a wide section of our community.”
The Mayor said Council was working in partnership with SunWater on the Beardmore Dam Recreation Area.
“We will provide SunWater with the results of our consultation with the community and how the community sees that space being used,” she said.
Cr O’Toole said Council had set up a page on Council’s website - https://www.balonne.qld.gov.au/community/get-involved/community-consultation - where people could watch a video to see what sort of information was being sought and then follow the links to complete the surveys on the master plans.
“There will also be links on Council’s social media sites for those who have access,” she said.
“It is hoped that as COVID-19 restrictions ease we can commence stage 2 of consultation with face-to-face meetings in St George and Bollon.
“This is all part of Council’s vision and mission to create vibrant communities in the Balonne Shire and I would urge you to take the time to fill out the survey.”
This first stage of Community Consultation will be open until Sunday 24 May 2020.
