Town commons are areas of land managed by the Council that are set aside for use by the local community. 

Council has six town commons for short-term and long-term stock agistment by Shire residents. The Town Common Agistment Application Form details eligibility and conditions for agistment at the town commons. 

To apply for agistment on any of the below commons, complete a Town Common Agistment Application Form.

Town Common Agistment form

  • Located approximately 6km from Bollon on the Balonne Highway (towards St George), the Bollon Town Common is 587ha in size and is suitable for the agistment of all livestock types. 

    Through funding in 2022 from the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland Program, the Bollon Town Common received new water infrastructure, with the aim of further drought proofing the common. 

  • At the edge of Dirranbandi on the Castlereagh Highway, the Dirranbandi Town Common is 408ha in size and is suitable for the agistment of medium-large sized livestock. 

    In early 2022, new fencing was erected at the Dirranbandi Town Common to improve its boundary enclosure for future use. 

  • Located approximately 2km from Hebel on the Castlereagh Highway, the Hebel Town Common is 406 hectares in size and is suitable for the agistment of medium-large sized livestock. 

    Through funding in 2022 from the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland Program, the Hebel Town Common received new water infrastructure, with the aim of further drought proofing the common.

  • Located on the corner of the Border-Connection Road and the Carnarvon Highway, the Mungindi Town Common is 578ha in size and is suitable for the agistment of medium-large sized livestock. 

    Through funding in 2022 from the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland Program, the Mungindi Town Common received new water infrastructure, with the aim of further drought proofing the common. 

  • Located approximately 3km from St George on Commissioners Point Road, the St George Town Common is 74ha in size and is suitable for the agistment of all animal types.  

  • Located approximately 500m from Thallon on the Carnarvon Highway, the Thallon Town Common is 204ha in size and is suitable for the agistment of medium-large livestock. 

    Through funding in 2022 from the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland Program, the Thallon Town Common received new water infrastructure and a new boundary fence, with the aim of further drought proofing the common.
