Grey Nomad Visitor Services Ambassador Program

Are you travelling through the Balonne Shire and do you have your own motorhome or caravan? Are you looking for a real local experience that will enrich your travels?

Why not take part in the Balonne Shire Council’s new Grey Nomad Visitor Services Ambassador Program? Volunteering as a Visitor Services Ambassador is a great way to get involved with the community and experience country living as a local.

By taking part in the Balonne Shire Grey Nomad Visitor Services Ambassador Program you’ll not only make a difference to our community, you’ll also meet new people, learn new skills and, above all, have fun while doing it. What’s more, if you volunteer for our Shire, we will provide you with free camping in exchange.

St George Visitor Services Ambassador

The St George program seeks to engage two (2) to three (3) couples to act as Visitor Services Ambassadors for the Shire for a minimum of two (2) months each during the 2020 tourist season (1 April to 30 September). Volunteers would be required to work between 12-20 hours a week covering weekends at the VIC, with some shifts during the week as required, as well as helping out at the Showgrounds during major events including Yellowbelly, Camp Drafts and Futurity to monitor camping and collect fees. In exchange, the couples will be given campsite accommodation including power usage and access to public facilities (showers, toilets) at the Showgrounds for the duration of their placement.

Thallon Visitor Services Ambassador

The Thallon Progress Association is also seeking volunteer ambassadors to help out in the small town of Thallon. They have a range of projects available within the town for you to participate in. This includes acting as camp hosts at the local campground, collecting fees and visitor data while promoting the attractions and services in the town. Volunteers could also be asked to utilise their skills for one-off specialist projects such as the ANZAC paving and Club House projects or volunteer in the community garden (blue card necessary) and help with ongoing maintenance around town. In return for two full days volunteering we will provide you with seven (7) nights free camping and full use of camp facilities.
