With a multitude of fishing spots yielding catches of Murray Cod and Yellowbelly, the Balonne Shire is very popular with keen fisherman.

Wallam Creek

Fishing is permitted along Wallam Creek in town.

Nebine Creek

60km West of Bollon.

Ida Waterhole

70km North of Bollon.

 

Dirranbandi

 

Balonne Minor Bridge

3km West of Dirranbandi on Bollon/Dirranbandi Road, Safety and access is subject to water levels.

Balonne Minor River

Fishing is permitted on Balonne Minor River in Dirranbandi.

 

Hebel

 

Bokhara River

Cray-fishing and fishing are permitted on Bokhara River just outside Hebel.

Narran River

Along the Hebel-Dirranbandi Road, Narran River can be found.

Culgoa Floodplains National Park

Culgoa Floodplains is on the Queensland - New South Wales border, approximately 67km south west of Hebel. Situated where the mulga lands meet a section of the brigalow, the park has diverse habitats and more plant and animal life than you might expect. It is a birdwatcher's haven and home to at least 150 different bird species including some of Australia's most beautiful parrots. A 4WD is recommended and visitors to the park are expected to be totally self sufficient, with water, food, fuel and camping equipment and all refuse should be removed from the park.

Fishing is permitted on the Barwon River beside the border bridge.

Moonie River

Fishing is allowed on the Moonie River adjacent to town.

 

St George

 

Warroo Bridge

Warroo Bridge is 60km from St George. Travel 51km along the Carnarvon Highway to "Wycombe School/Warroo Bridge" turnoff. Turn left, proceed 9km to the bridge. access and safety are subject to water levels in E.J. Beardmore Dam. Do not cross boundary fences.

Jack Taylor Weir

Jack Taylor Weir is on the town reaches of the Balonne River. Boat ramp, parks and toilets available. Fishing prohibited 100 metres upstream and 115 metres downstream.

Beardmore Dam Turnoff

14km north of St George along the Carnarvon Highway to the Beardmore Dam turnoff, turn left, access on the left side heading to the dam. Not advisable in wet weather.

E.J. Beardmore Dam

Travel from St George 14km along the Carnarvon Highway to the turnoff. Turn left and proceed 8km to the dam. Boat ramp. Fishing prohibited 100 metres upstream and 200 metres downstream. No camping allowed.
