Hebel Local Attractions

Hebel is an unpretentious town, a Queensland backdoor on the route leading over the border into New South Wales. Although the little town seem hardly the little town seems hardly distinguishable from thousands of others dotted about inland Australia, it is steeped in history. Established in 1889 as Kelly's Point, it has been claimed that Dan Kelly and Steve Hart, members of the infamous Kelly gang, resided here under assumed identities.

 Culgoa Floodplains National Park

Culgoa Floodplains is on the Queensland - New South Wales border, approximately 67km south west of Hebel. Situated where the mulga lands meet a section of the brigalow, the park has diverse habitats and more plant and animal life than you might expect. It is a birdwatcher's haven and home to at least 150 different bird species including some of Australia's most beautiful parrots. A 4WD is recommended and visitors to the park are expected to be totally self sufficient, with water, food, fuel and camping equipment and all refuse should be removed from the park.
