Animal Control

The Control of animals within the Town Areas of the Shire is governed by Council's Local Law No. 2 (Keeping and Control of Animals). This Law and its related Policy set the standards and conditions under which animals may be kept within the Town areas.  In most cases it is necessary for approval to be obtained. Council employs a Local Law Officer whose duties include the implementation of this Law and Policy.  Regular patrols and inspections are carried out throughout all of the town areas by this officer.

Council operates a Dog Pound at St. George.  Animals may be released from the pound during the following times:

Monday to Friday (Excluding Public Holidays)

 8.30 am to 4.30 pm

Information on registration and keeping of dogs can be found here.
