Council to put excess SunWater CAP entitlements up for tender
Balonne Shire Council will put excess SunWater CAP entitlements up for tender to raise income for council infrastructure.
Mayor Richard Marsh said this would not impact on the Shire’s water allocation to residents, but could potentially provide a substantial source of income.
“Council’s SunWater Supply Scheme CAP will reset to 100 per cent on 1 July, so it makes financial sense to sell some of the access for the benefit of our residents,” he said.
“However, if Council feels the price offered for the CAP is not fair, we will not sell.
“I want to assure residents that this will have no effect on them as Council also has a water allocation from the Beardmore Dam which supplies residential requirements.
“We are not selling water, but merely the access to the entitlement of SunWater CAP, Council does not need in the next three months.
“If we sell the excess CAP we will still have more than enough for our shire.”
